HOW WE KEEP OUR HANDMADE TOPICAL PRODUCTS FROM GOING BAD:
We pride ourselves on not adding chemicals or unnatural preservatives to our handmade preparations, therefore, some variance can occur in the products from batch to batch. Some examples of natural preservatives we use are: essential oils, beeswax, honey, glycerine, vitamin E oil, and others. Due to the commitment to make clean products and the desire for using rather than coveting, the shelf life of each item is limited to approximately 3 to 12 months depending on the product. Our products are naturally made and do not last forever, nor do we want them to! Products that have a shelf life of multiple years may contain questionable ingredients. For the best quality, please enjoy our products within 6 months of purchase and store them in a cool, dry, dark place if possible.
Pro Tip: Please refrigerate the products for a longer shelf life if desired. This works great, especially when buying in larger quantities. We like to keep the larger bulk jar in the fridge and scoop out a small quantity into a little jar to keep close by for daily use.
SYNTHETIC IS BAD:
We are willing to have products that don't last forever because synthetic ingredients can disturb the fine chemical balance of your body. Some are known to be endocrine disruptors, which mess with the hormones that govern our tissue function, mood, metabolism, growth and development, sexual function, and reproductive processes. The endocrine system influences nearly all cells, organs and functions of the human body. Upsetting this balance in our bodies with synthetic ingredients affects our immune system, causes reproductive disorders, developmental disorders, toxicity to our environment from ingredients not breaking down, and more.
PRODUCT VARIATIONS:
Please note that color and consistency can change slightly from each batch because every product is made by hand, not mass produced. Some natural particles may have settled in the product. Not to worry, this is normal! Herbs can vary depending on where/how they are grown, environmental conditions, weather conditions, etc.
HERB SOURCING:
All our herbs are sourced from either organic or sustainably wildcrafted plants and locally when available. Vendors can change by the season as not all herbs are available at all times of the year. Some herbs are grown and/or harvested by us. Others are purchased from herb companies or wildcrafters that have been thoroughly vetted.
HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:
Botanica Apothecaria is different because our products are formulated with potent herbs by a Medical Herbalist with a degree in Herbal Sciences. We also follow the Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs). Quality and sustainability are of the utmost importance to us. So we hand make our products in small batches to ensure freshness and quality. You can purchase from us knowing that you are supporting a small business with ethically harvested sustainable practices and extensive herb knowledge from a woman of color.
